Somerset woman charged after late-night police chase ends in arrest

A 26-year-old Somerset woman has been charged after she allegedly led police on a late-night chase Tuesday.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, just after 11 p.m. Conemaugh Township police attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Erica Barkman, of Somerset, at the Go Moore Store along Woodstown Highway.

The vehicle then took off toward state Route 219, according to the affidavit.

Windber and state police departments were called to assist in the pursuit.

During the chase, Barkman’s vehicle allegedly struck a police cruiser on Route 30.

The chase ended just after 11:30 p.m. along Route 985 near Green Gables Restaurant in Jenner Township.

Barkman was then pulled from the vehicle and arrested, according to the affidavit.

She has been charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault, second-degree misdemeanor fleeing, second-degree misdemeanor resisting arrest and five summary offenses.

She was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Douglas McCall Bell, of Meyersdale, and was sent to the Somerset County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 2 before District Judge Susan Mankamyer, of Boswell.

An online court docket did not list an attorney for Barkman Wednesday afternoon.
