Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The Salvation Army announced earlier this week that it will close its Johnstown dental center later this month.
It was first reported back in November that the group planned to move the dental center to a new location on Goucher Street in Upper Yoder Township.
Since then, officials say they’ve been faced with unexpected obstacles due to rental property issues, and although the brick and mortar location will be closing, officials say they still plan to provide help for those with dental healthcare needs.
“It would be more like a voucher program where we would work with dentists in the community to pay off the bills who need it for dental care, especially seniors, those without medical insurance or dental coverage,” says Erin Smullen, Captain of the Johnstown Salvation Army.
The dental center had been operating in the community since its opening in 2013.
