Barrett Art Center Opens Community Art Exhibit In Poughkeepsie

An opening reception for Envisioning Dutchess and Arboreal Conversations will be held on Friday, June 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. This event, which is free and open to the public, will feature an official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Barrett’s 80th anniversary. Images of the accepted entries will be posted on Barrett Art Center’s website after the opening reception at this link under Exhibits, Envisioning Dutchess.

Envisioning Dutchess invites artists and supporters from across Dutchess County to submit artwork on canvas panels that visually capture the creative vitality of Dutchess County. Envisioning Dutchess represents the formal launch of a reinvigorated Barrett Art Center, well-prepared to continue onward as the home of the Dutchess County Art Association. This exhibition is a part of our efforts to encourage collaboration in the region and engage communities throughout Dutchess County.

Anyone may participate in Envisioning Dutchess by submitting an original piece of artwork—on a two-foot by two-foot canvas panel supplied by Barrett Art Center—that reflects Dutchess County visually. Panels submitted for the exhibition will be displayed unframed in a patchwork fashion in the galleries of Barrett Art Center for the exhibition. Submissions will be accepted through Saturday, May 21. The registration fee is $40 for Barrett members and $45 for non-members.

The Gorevic and Soodalter show, Arboreal Conversations – a Photographic Discourse, will take place in Barrett Art Center’s Crenson Gallery. Each artist presents her distinct photographic approach—Gorevic through black and white imagery and Soodalter through her macro lens—to interpreting trees.

The exhibition will be on view through July 2 at the Barrett Art Center, located at 55 Noxon St. in Poughkeepsie. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. For more information call 845-471-2550, email info@barrettartcenter.org or visit this link.
